Centre for london - Your london futures

Centre for London is working with the Mayor of London, London boroughs, businesses, universities, charities and Londoners to create a shared vision for London to 2050 and beyond as part of the London Futures Review.

WHAT IS The ‘your london futures’ Project?

The London Futures review is a once in a generation opportunity to take a long term, strategic approach to the city. CFL’s aim is to build a new shared vision for London with Londoners. There are many directions that London could take in the future, but the city lacks a shared vision to navigate the many challenges it faces and the trade-offs that will need to be made. We need to establish what Londoners want London’s future to be like and what the city’s priorities should be.

To create a shared vision, CFL needs the opinions of Londoners to understand what’s most important to them and their city. CFL launched ‘Your Future London’ – an online platform giving Londoners the chance to learn about how London is doing today, exploring five future scenarios for the city and having a say in London’s future. The choices respondents make will reveal what the public care about, what direction they want the city to take, and what Your Future London would look like.

Design agency Studio Cronica invited Pocko Illustrator Andrea Chronopoulos to help envision these future scenarios.

There are many directions that London could take in the future. We could ban all petrol cars to reach the city’s zero-carbon goals, we could invest more in innovation and grow the economy, or we could create a fairer capital with a London minimum wage and free public transport.

The project from CFL invites respondents to learn more about how London is doing today, explore five potential future scenarios for the city, and have their say in London’s future through a series of questions. These five future scenarios for London in 2050 aim to provoke conversations about the kind of city Londoners want in the decades ahead.

The five scenarios are: 15 Minute London, Londependence, London MegaCapital, Levelled up London and Safety First London. Each of the scenarios show what the city would be like if we prioritised certain issues and values – like sustainability, personal freedom, economic growth, safety, fairness, or health – and what trade-offs we would have to make in each potential future.
