Give the [GIF]t of a Better Future this Christmas
A Pocko Social x monopo collaboration, and the first instalment of The KADO Project.
WHAT IS THE KADO PROJECT?
The KADO Project is all about promoting charities and nonprofit organisations through the transformative power of art and design. Give The [GIF]t is the first installment of what will hopefully be a long running project between the two companies. The name KADO is inspired by the French word “cadeau” meaning gift, changing the “deau” to “do” to imply to an action. The Japanese word for gate can be read as ‘kado’, suggesting the entrance into a better world.
So this year let's rethink what a ‘normal’ Christmas can (and should) be. To help give the gift of a better future, Pocko Social have paired artists with charities, with each artist creating a unique digital Christmas Card to celebrate their linked cause. This is a campaign designed to encourage a non-materialistic approach to the gifting season, where online shopping has engorged the public’s desire to spend money on products we don’t need.
The KADO Project will promote a selection of 13 charities – We decided on 13 rather than the traditional 12 days of Christmas, to reflect the nontraditional and non-religious approach to the festive period, and to reflect Pocko’s punk and untraditional beginnings. The general public will be encouraged to rethink their gifting this season, and instead pass on a donation to a charity either in the name of a loved one, or for themselves.
So…how do i donate to receive a free artwork?
Christmas 2020 has come and gone, that doesn’t mean you can no longer spread awareness for the cause. See below how you can STILL donate today.
Donate to any of the causes below, then pop back to this page and click on the button to ‘GIFT ARTISTS E-ARTWORK’. You will be asked a few questions and then directed to a unique page where you can share your virtual artwork/e-card to a loved one.
Feel like sending a physical greetings card of the artwork to a loved one? Once you’ve been directed to the unique page, click on the artwork and download the Greetings Card PDF to print out.
It’s as simple as that!

akt supports LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. They support young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment that celebrates LGBTQ+ identities.
24% of homeless young people are LGBTQ+
77% of the LGBTQ+ young people akt work with believe coming out at home was the main factor in causing their homelessness and so it's vital that they’re supported in an environment that’s inclusive and celebrates their identities in order to improve their life outcomes.
As Covid restrictions remain in place, akt has continued to see a high volume of young people needing support, either because they’re homeless or because their living situation at home is becoming increasingly volatile

For over 50 years St Mungo’s has been at the forefront of efforts to tackle homelessness within London and the South of England. They work to prevent homelessness, and to support people at every step of their recovery from homelessness.
Each night St Mungo’s 17 outreach teams go out to help people sleeping rough to move away from the streets, and they regularly provide beds and support to over 3,150 people.
Homelessness is devastating, dangerous and isolating. On average, homeless people die at just 44 years old.
People sleeping on the street are almost 17 times more likely to have been victims of violence. More than one in three people sleeping rough have been deliberately hit or kicked or experienced some other form of violence whilst homeless.

There has been a growth of anti-migrant commentary. This combined with international and national terrorist events, alongside irresponsible reporting, has increased feelings of hostility towards these minority groups. Across Europe, Far Right movements continue to gain traction and are an increasing threat.
91% of teachers led classroom discussions on racism as part of preparatory work in class and over 90% of teachers agreed that taking part in the competition had improved pupils understanding of racism.

SAVVY Contemporary is an independent interdisciplinary art space in Berlin. We address the ideologies, politics and daily practices of oppression, while deconstructing the history and continuity of Western hegemony and critically engaging with anti-racist and anti-discriminatory politics and practices. For this campaign, SAVVY Contemporary chooses to advocate for the Internally Displaced People of the Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon.
The crisis in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon worsened in 2016 when the government cracked down on protests by their anglophone minority and escalated into a fully-fledged conflict in 2018.
Children and women are the principle victims of the conflict: more than 500.000 people are displaced, more than 3000 the victims, among which children savagely murdered in their classrooms, teachers’ whose decapitated heads have been hanged in the center of Bamenda, and abused women.
