M&C Saatchi x ballshit
Plenitude teams up with Olimpia Milano for the Ballshit initiative, developed with EY+M&C Saatchi to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25.
During the EuroLeague game on November 21, players will warm up with basketballs hand-painted by illustrators Costanza Starrabba, Elisa Puglielli, Isabella Bersellini, Martina Filippella, and Shut Up Claudia, highlighting gender stereotypes and economic violence.
The designs will also appear on t-shirts and be displayed at the Plenitude Flagship Store from November 25 to 30.
“Sexist jokes, phrases spoken lightly, ways of saying that become ways to offend.
Every day words become a form of further violence, which undermines women’s self-esteem and limits their social and economic independence. Here's why Plenitude and Olympia Milano are getting into the field with Ballshit, a project that breaks stereotypes to fight them together.”-Plentitude about the ‘Ballsh*t’ project
Elisa Puglielli is an italian illustrator and designer, her work appearing internationally in editorial, fashion and other commercial fields.
This is what she says about her design for this project: “Who said it's the man who takes the money home? In this way, when you are denying your partner the chance to work, economic violence manifests itself. It is a form of violence that is even more sneaky than it is invisible, and has to be eradicated through education and awareness. This is why we launched Ballshit.”
Isabella Bersellini is a freelance illustrator based in Parma, who has worked with clients like De Morgen, AARP, Freeda, Twix (Italy) and Google Italia.
Isabella says the following about her idea behind the design: “Gender violence is also what stifles the potential of women and limits their autonomy in the economic and financial sphere. This is why with Ballshit we wanted to shed light on this form of oppression to remind us once again that "stereotypes about women are all bullshit". “
Shut Up Claudia is a Portuguese freelance illustrator and artist based in Milan, Italy. Her work is colorful and bold with a playful energy, she loves to draw fun characters and work in different styles.
“He asked for it.” But also: "She had drunk too much", "Who knows how she was dressed", "Serious girls don't go out at that time": these are all expressions of a toxic narrative that removes responsibility from the attacker by placing part of the blame on the woman. it's time to say enough, it's time to say "it's all balls".
Costanza Starrabba an Italian illustrator and graphic designer, to whom the theme of femininity is key in her practice, represented not only through the body but also through movements, shapes, curves, and shadows. The concept of femininity permeates every element of her work, eventually invading everything. She was a chosen artist by Off-White™ for the first Italian stage of an international project dedicated to female creativity, which continued to be developed internationally.
“You're my stuff”: a phrase that no woman can accept hearing, to be rejected and erased also thanks to the education of the new generations”, as Costanza Starrabba underlines.
Martina Filippella is an Italian illustrator & graphic designer based in Milan. Her work is inspired by pop culture, comics & thought-provoking whimsy.
Martina talks this way about the project: “ “Women have their hands full.” How many times have we heard this phrase? A gender stereotype that is still very widespread and deep-rooted, to be broken down also with creativity and colored markers, as we did with Ballshit.”
