In and Proud 2020 campaign
June is pride month here in the UK. That means parades, street parties and safe spaces for all aspects of the queer community. Due to the current climate of the Coronavirus, things are put on hold… and Pride in London was cancelled.
Pocko Social was contacted by Adam & EveDDB about a campaign and platform they created to help everyone celebrate in their own way, whilst encouraging people to still stay home and save lives.
‘This pride we’re not together. And, while that’s tough for everyone, it’s particularly tough on our community. Because for us...community is everything. Many of us are living alone. Some of us are living with families who don’t feel like our real family. But (and this is a big but) Just because pride is different this year. Just because there’s no parade, Doesn’t mean we can’t be proud. So let’s put our best heels forward. Let’s dance like everyone’s watching.’ - Adam&EveDDB
The work
We contacted our fantastic network of artists about the brief and shared round our support for the campaign. Illustrations, animations and paper cuts were all created to celebrate this cause – once again Pocko Social is proud to represent and celebrate a cause close to our hearts.

At home or on the streets, the most important thing is to be always proud of who you are. Staying home can be an opportunity to remember the struggles and fights that have been made for equality and to reflect on what we can still do to protect everyone's rights.

Just because Pride didn’t happen, it doesn't happen that it's not there. How will I be celebrating pride this year? Well, we'll see but it would probably about finding a way to have people at home and try to have a good and loud party. Fingers crossed.

We've been always #In&Proud supporting everyone who believes in love, no matter who you are and who you want to share that love with. We are showing support and respect every day of the year, and this is the best way how to celebrate the LGBT+ community.

Pride is about feeling comfortable and safe, and celebrating and supporting those who had to fight/are still fighting for ‘normality’ and acceptance. This year, I will be celebrating by creating, and sharing my art work, using my straight privilege to educate, learn and show solidarity and support. I will of course be doing this, with a massive glass of vino in my hand and listening to Dolly!

For me, Pride is about expressing who we really are, not being able to go on parade WON'T stop us from being ourselves. Together we will stay in but keep being proud, believing in "Love is love", we're all Queens of heart, no matter what. How will I celebrate pride this year? Pop open a bottle of sparkling, turn on Zoom, up the volume of music, dance away with friends in each of our own flats.

Dare to be colourful. Dare to be different. We are celebrating pride in our photo studio this year, because that’s what we love best. We’re creating colourful images to put a smile on your face, even in these times.

Sadly, for a lot of queer people being "home" is not a safe space. Therefore having to be "IN and Proud" during lockdown could be lead to much worse things than simply missing pride related events. Depression, domestic violence and suicide rates are all serious things to bare in mind during this campaign / pride.
